Connecting to the Wastewater System

If you are building a new home or want to connect an existing dwelling to the South Kingstown wastewater system, you need to obtain an approval letter from the Wastewater Division.

Application & Fees

Call the Wastewater Division office at 401-789-9331, ext. 2250, or download the Sewer Service Application (PDF) to start the process. After confirming that sewer service is available, a letter will be prepared for the owner's signature. The $60 dollars in miscellaneous review, inspection and permit fees must be paid at the time the letter is issued.

In addition, there is a one time "System Assessment Fee" that must be paid prior to physical connection to the sewers. The System Assessment Fee is $1,800 per residential unit ($1,800 for a 1 family home; $3,600 for a 2 family, etc.). Non-residential properties should call the Wastewater Division office to have the System Assessment Fee calculated.

Sewer Permit & Sewer Line Inspection

Before work on the sewer line begins, all fees must be paid and your State-licensed Underground Utility Contractor or Master Plumber needs to obtain a sewer permit at the Wastewater Division Office, 509 Commodore Perry Highway, Wakefield Rhode Island. Sewer line inspections must be scheduled at least 48 hours (2 business days) before digging begins and the sewer permit must be on site. Call the Wastewater Division office at 401-789-9331, ext. 2250 to schedule the inspection.
