Recycling Bin FAQs
I need a recycling bin, how do I get one?
South Kingstown & Narragansett no longer provides residents with recycling bins. The South Kingstown Department of Public Services sometimes has used bins returned to them from residents, call to see if any are available. If not, residents can use any bin for their recycling as long as it clearly labeled as a recycling bin. Stickers are available at Public Services to attach to recycling bins (free of charge). Some private haulers request bins that work with their truck mechanisms. Some options can be found at these links:
Home Depot - 64 Gallon Bin
Ace Hardware - 64 Gallon Bin
The Town of South Kingstown does not endorse any specific bin or company.
I have two bins (green and blue), do I need both?
No, you don't need both. As of 2012, Rhode Island has practiced "Single Stream Recycling" which means that all recyclables can be mixed together in the same bin, and will be sorted at the RIRRC facility. Even though some recycle bins may say "Cardboard and Paper only" or "Plastic, Metal and Glass" only, you can now mix all items together. If you don't use both bins, Department of Public Services will take one back to disperse to other residents.
I have a bin that I don't need, what do I do with it?
The South Kingstown Department of Public Services will take back your unused bin. Either bring it to our office or call to see if it can be picked up.
My bin has broken parts, how do I fix them?
If your bin's axle, wheels, or lid break, the town of South Kingstown may have some replacement parts. Call the Recycling Coordinator to see if parts are available.
I have a broken bin or bin that's no longer usable, how do I dispose of it?
Remove the wheels and axle, and bring it to the transfer station and set it beside the dumpster labeled "rigid plastic." Call the Recycling Coordinator for assistance.
