Public Hearing #2 Cancelled
Public Notice
Tonight’s Town Council and School Committee Public Hearing has been cancelled.
The Town will be selecting two (2) alternate dates at a larger venue to better accommodate attendance.
Once a location is confirmed, updated details will be shared on social media and the Town’s website.

Zoning Board Application
As of March 17, 2025 all Zoning Board of Review Applications must be submitted online:
- Application for the Zoning Board of Review: Application
- Signed, and notarized Owner / Authorized Agent Authorization Form the blank form can be found at: Form: Owner Authorization Form
- 200’ Radius Map & Abutters List with Plat & Lot, street address, owner’s name(s) & owner’s mailing address
Instructions: Radius Map and Abutters List Instructions
- Survey, to scale, prepared by a licensed professional land surveyor
This is required for any type of dimensional modification and must be stamped, dated, and signed by professional land surveyor *please note, only the surveyor of record can make alterations to an existing survey*
- Showing name, address of property owner
- Date, North arrow, scale, lot dimensions & area
- Road(s) indicated and/or landmarks
- Existing and proposed structures & the distance from lot lines
- Existing and proposed parking area, driveways & walkways
- Existing and proposed wells & septic systems
- Existing and proposed landscaping, as it relates to the request (i.e., buffering)
- Location of wetlands, coastal features, site conditions such as cemeteries or stone walls
- Floor Plans & Elevations with dimensions of proposed structure to scale (optional)
- Any other relevant material to the proposed application (optional)
- Payment: Will be due once the application has had its preliminary review *the applicant will be notified through OPENGOV that payment is due
- Residential $175.00 / Commercial $250.00 / Multi-family $300.00 plus $10.00 / units
- Hearing Date, Legal Notice and Affidavit of Mailing:
- Hearing date will be set upon final review of application and
- Legal notice will be drafted and uploaded to the application. The applicant must verify ownership of all abutters within 200’ of property boundaries and then mail the legal notice to all abutters no later than fourteen (14) days prior to the scheduled hearing date then
- Affidavit of Mailing must be signed, notarized and returned to this office once. Failure to supply the affidavit of mailing may result in the petition being continued until a later date.
- Decision: Once the decision has been written it will be recorded in Land Evidence and uploaded to OPENGOV. *Please note that an aggrieved party may appeal a decision of the board to the Superior Court by filing a complaint setting forth the reasons of appeal within twenty (20) days after such decision has been filed and posted with the town clerk. Once the twenty (20) days have passed any permits, if applicable, can be issued.
The applicant or their designated representative must appear at the hearing to present the application before the Board. If the applicant is not present at the hearing a notarized designation of authority from the applicant must be provided.
Preparation of this Application and all necessary documentation is the sole responsibility of the Applicant.
Town Staffs help in the preparation of any facet of this application, including abutter’s list is for assistance only.
The staff cannot give you advise on the merits of the application, nor can they render legal opinions.

SK USA250 Speaker Series - Clothing from the Revolutionary War
Colonial men who fought in the American Revolution are often pictured wearing tri-corner hats. We have all seen them. But what did the women wear? Renee Tuttle will answer this question Wednesday, April 8, at 7:00pm in the South Kingstown High School Auditorium.
Tuttle’s talk will discuss the dress of colonial women and touch on hair and cosmetics or the lack thereof. Her talk is the fourth in the South Kingstown 250th Anniversary Speaker Series.
Renee Tuttle has worked at Colonial Williamsburg’s Costume Design Center and with their 18th historic clothing collection. She completed her Master of Science in Historic Textiles and Dress at the University of Rhode Island, Department of Textiles, Fashion, Merchandizing, and Design.
She has meticulously recreated reproductions of 18th century garments for her personal collection.

OLD MOUNTAIN FIELD PROJECT UPDATE
Old Mountain Field Project – Work Underway
Work has begun on the Old Mountain Field improvement project. As part of this project, the electrical transformer that provides service to the baseball field and skate park lighting systems is being replaced. The existing transformer has been removed, and as a result the electrical service that powers the lights at the baseball field and skate park will be temporarily unavailable.
Project impacts and field accommodations include:
Lights, scoreboard, and press box power will be restored for the upcoming high school, Little League, and Waves baseball seasons.
Spectator seating will be available along the third base line, first base line, and outfield sidelines.
The bleacher area behind home plate will be fenced off during construction of a new seating and concession patio area.
The Parks and Recreation Department will continue to be in regular communication with the SK High School Athletics Department to ensure that the baseball schedule is not impacted.
Parking will remain available within the park and along Kingstown Road during the project.
We recognize this project may cause temporary inconvenience; however, the long-term benefits of this capital improvement will be substantial for South Kingstown school athletics and the community at large.
Beginning the week of March 16, the contractor will be on site to start initial project setup, including:
Installation of erosion control measures
Site containment setup
Temporary fencing
Additional measures to ensure the safety and security of the area during construction
We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as this long-awaited project gets underway.

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR PARTICIPATION IN MEMORIAL DAY PARADE
Veterans; military, civic and private organizations, Town leaders, schools, and members of the public organizations are invited to participate in the annual South Kingstown Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony on Monday, May 25th at 10:00 a.m. Following the parade, a memorial ceremony will be conducted at the Veterans Monument at Saugatucket Park on High Street, at 11:00 a.m.
The Committee encourages involvement to make this a true community-wide event. Your support will reflect the Town’s commitment to continuing this sacred, patriotic tradition for years to come.

The parade line-up consists of three divisions:

Parade participants should arrive at 9:00 a.m. for parade assembly. In the event of inclement weather, please check the Town of South Kingstown Facebook Page or log onto www.southkingstownri.gov for a weather-related announcement.
